How the TaylorMade range is structured

Start with the family, not the model. TaylorMade sorts almost everything into a small number of ranges, and once you know which range you are in, the choice inside it is short.

Qi is the game-improvement line. Qi4D drivers, fairway woods and rescues, and Qi Max irons. If you want the ball to go further and straighter without thinking about it, look here first. It covers the widest band of golfers of anything TaylorMade makes.

P Series is the players line. P790, P770 and P7CB irons. Thinner toplines, more control over shot shape, less forgiveness. Generally single-figure handicaps.

Inside Qi4D, the suffix does the work. Standard suits most golfers. Max adds draw bias and forgiveness if your miss is a slice. LS spins less and suits swing speeds over 100 mph that already find the centre of the face.

Which TaylorMade range is for you

• Qi4D covers drivers, fairway woods and rescues. Distance and forgiveness, and where most golfers should start. Max adds draw bias, LS lowers spin.
• Qi Max is the iron range. The most forgiving irons TaylorMade makes, and Qi Max HL launches higher again.
• P Series is P790, P770 and P7CB irons. For single-figure handicaps wanting a thinner topline and more control over shot shape.
• Milled Grind 5 and Hi-Toe 5 are the wedges. Milled Grind for full shots and control, Hi-Toe for open-face shots and bunker play.
• Spider and SYSTM2 are the putters. Spider is high-MOI mallets for off-centre strikes. SYSTM2 is classic blade and mallet shapes.
• TP5, TP5x and Tour Response are the golf balls. TP5 and TP5x are the five-layer tour balls, TP5 softer and TP5x lower spinning. Tour Response is the value tour ball.

Our take on the TaylorMade range

TaylorMade is the brand we fit frequently, largely because Qi covers such a wide band of golfers. If you are replacing one club rather than a set, make it the driver. The gap between a five-year-old head and a Qi4D is bigger than the gap between a Qi4D and anything else on the rack. Spider putters are the other easy win, and the reason is the same: forgiveness on strikes you do not hit out of the middle.

Should I buy TP5 or TP5x?

How long does a custom order take?

Two to three weeks from order for custom shaft, grip and length specifications. Stock specifications are usually available the same day in store.
