Five Years On: Why the SIM2 Range Still Delivers for Hi/Mid Handicappers
Five years since launch, the SIM2 range remains one of TaylorMade's most complete offerings for higher and mid handicap golfers. The oversized SIM2 Max and Max D models were built around forgiveness from day one, and the fundamentals that made them so easy to play still hold up: a low, deep center of gravity for a high, penetrating launch, a wide forgiving face, and Twist Face correction that quietly straightens out the toe and heel misses that plague higher handicap golfers most.
The SIM2 Max OS irons in particular remain a standout for game-improvement players. The Cap Back design and Thru-Slot Speed Pocket combine to deliver a genuinely large sweet spot, so mishits still find the green rather than the rough, while the ECHO Damping System keeps the feel soft rather than harsh off-center. For a hi/mid handicapper prioritising consistency over ultimate ball speed, that combination still competes with far newer releases.
With SIM2 now sitting well into clearance pricing across the Drummond Golf network, it represents excellent value for golfers wanting proven, forgiving technology without paying current-release prices. Stock varies by store, so contact your nearest Drummond Golf store to check availability.
Three Driver Options for 2021
Reinvented with new forged ring construction, SIM2 drivers are crafted from a lightweight and high strength aluminium. Every clubhead is carefully milled to an exacting shape and includes a full carbon sole and crown. These modules are united with the milled back face cup and a large rear weight to produce one powerful and singular force.
Constructing SIM2 drivers with a lightweight carbon sole and crown provided more benefit than its stunning look alone. Saving overall weight via the expanded use of carbon allowed engineers to redistribute mass to form a heavy rear weight. This improves the club's center of gravity for better launch and forgiveness.
SIM2 drivers include TaylorMade's trademarked Speed Injected Twist Face technology. The industry-leading advancement means each head is calibrated for maximum speed and includes corrective face curvature to straighten ball flight after toe and heel mishits. Resting on the sole of the driver, TaylorMade's very own Thru-Slot Speed Pocket produces added forgiveness on shots struck low on the face.
The SIM2 Max D incorporates a draw bias design by shifting weight closer to the heel. This produces a higher launch and is the most forgiving face in the SIM2 lineup.
Fairway Woods Built for Every Game
The SIM2 Family includes three premium fairway models: SIM2 Titanium, SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max D. SIM2 Titanium boasts a Tour-inspired look with its compact 170cc pear shaped head. It features an ultra-strong titanium face and a lightweight carbon crown, and the strategically positioned 80g steel sole weight maintains a low center of gravity for higher launch.
SIM2 Max possesses a larger 190cc head. Built from high strength C300 steel, its strong fast face is designed to produce explosive ball speeds. SIM2 Max D has the largest head and face area in the SIM2 family of fairways. The 195cc head and draw-bias designed fairway is optimised for forgiveness.
All SIM2 fairway models are powered by TaylorMade's V Steel design. The iconic property redistributes weight in the clubhead to provide a new level of forgiveness.
Rescues for Every Skill Level
SIM2 and SIM2 Max Rescues build on the success of the original SIM Max Rescue, which featured in the bag of world No. 1 Dustin Johnson winning the 2020 Travelers Championship.
SIM2 Max Rescue provides towering ball flight and suits all skill levels. Tour-validated performance is delivered through the combination of a fleet of superior technologies. Its V Steel design maintains a low center of gravity in the clubhead for added forgiveness, powerful ball speed is produced from its ultra-strong C300 Steel face, and TaylorMade's patented Twist Face is designed to gain accuracy on mis-hit shots.
The more compact shaped SIM2 Rescue allows any golfer to transition from a long iron to a hybrid with ease. The sleek looking SIM2 Rescue with its new leading edge design offers iron-like ball flight and workability, and the SIM2 Rescue includes an adjustable 1.5 degree loft sleeve to further personalise performance.
Irons Engineered for Game Improvement
TaylorMade present the SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max OS Irons to round out the SIM2 Family. The all-new multi material irons are built to deliver unmatched game improvement. Cap Back design is TaylorMade's new iron construction that utilises high-strength stainless steel and ultralight polymer material to span the entire cavity.
Cap Back Design combines with Thru-Slot Speed Pocket to deliver a larger sweet spot for optimal distance and enhanced forgiveness. The new ECHO Damping System reduces vibrations to produce a softer feel off the clubface. TaylorMade use Progressive Inverted Cone Technology to minimise side spin on mishit shots, which promotes better accuracy, and an extremely low center of gravity is engineered to produce a high penetrating ball flight.
In addition to the above powerful technologies both models enjoy, SIM2 Max OS is equipped with a wider sole, stronger lofts and a draw-bias. TaylorMade states this oversized package is the longest and most stable iron in their current family.
