ROUND 1: Wrap

Cantlay Races to Lead AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

Patrick Cantlay fired a course-record equalling 10-under 62 at Pebble Beach Golf Links. He leads the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am by two shots. Ranked No. 3 in the FedExCup standings, the 28-year-old American got off to a fast start with three consecutive birdies at the opening holes. He then peeled off four unanswered birdies from the fifth to eighth holes to turn in 29 shots. The flawless round ended with three birdies on the back nine.

Compatriot Akshay Bhatia and Sweden’s Henrik Norlander produced a round of 8-under 64. Bhatia, aged 19, was superb finding all 18 greens in regulation to become the first player since Ryan Palmer in 2008 to achieve that feat at Pebble Beach Golf Links. He is just the seventh player to hit all 18 greens in regulation at Pebble Beach since the PGA Tour began keeping hole-by-hole statistics in 1983. That short list includes Jack Nicklaus.

Former world No. 1 Jordan Spieth looked sharp signing for a 7-under 65. Spieth, who won this event in 2017, rocketed near the top of the leaderboard after his ‘shot-of-the-day’ hole out for an eagle from 113 yards at the par-4, 10th hole.
