Koepka Outlasts Gooch To Win LIV Golf Jeddah
Brooks Koepka won LIV Golf Jeddah at the second playoff hole at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Saudi Arabia. The 33-year-old American overcame compatriot Talor Gooch for his second LIV Golf title this season and third career LIV Golf title. Koepka won LIV Golf Jeddah in 2022. He won that contest over Peter Uihlein at the third playoff hole.
Koepka, a five-time major champion, closed with a 2-under 68 on Sunday to get to 14-under after taking a three-shot lead into the final round. Gooch delivered a sizzling 8-under 62 to meet Koepka at 14-under at the completion of the 54 holes regulation play. Koepka birdied both playoff holes for the win.
Gooch was chasing a fourth LIV Golf title for the season. The 31-year-old won Adelaide (Australia), Singapore and Andalucia (Spain). Gooch takes out the season-long title including the US$18 million bonus.
Harold Varner III (65), Scott Vincent (66) and Sergio Garcia (67) finished two shots back at 12-under.
Cameron Smith and Matt Jones were the best-placed Australians at 6-under.
Fireballs Golf Club won the team competition with 34-under. The team led by captain Sergio Garcia includes Abraham Ancer, Eugenio Chacarra and Carlos Ortiz. Fireballs overcame RangeGoats by three shots. The Cameron Smith led Australian team Ripper Golf Club finished in 7th place.
The LIV Golf Tour returns to the USA for next week’s Team Championship Miami to be staged at Trump National Doral.
