Pampling Wins SAS Championship
Australian Rod Pampling has enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory at the SAS Championship in North Carolina on the PGA TOUR Champions. The 54-year-old tour veteran fired rounds of 66, 68 and 67 to reach 15-under at Prestonwood Country club. New Zealand’s Steve Alker was two shots back at 13-under in solo second place.
Pampling took a one shot lead into Sunday and built a healthy three-shot buffer heading into the final hole after going bogey-free for his first 17 holes. It was Pampling’s second PGA TOUR Champions title. He won the Boeing Classic in 2020.
South Africa’s Ernie Els and America’s Mario Tiziani finished in a share of third place at 11-under. Tiziano posted the best round on Sunday with a 65. His T3 result marked his best ever finish on the PGA TOUR Champions.
The PGA TOUR Champions moves to Virginia for next week’s Dominion Energy Charity Classic to be staged at The Country Club of Virginia. New Zealand’s Steve Alker is the defending champion.
