Beat 1st Tee Jitters

Get Your Round Off To A Flyer

Feeling nervous before your opening tee-shot is natural. After all, you want to start your round in good shape. At many courses, your first shot is struck in full view of numerous onlookers‚Äîno doubt causing you even more concern. By developing a solid pre-shot routine, you‚Äôll put yourself in a comfort zone that will allow you to relax, focus on the shot at hand, and swing as smoothly as though you were on the practice range.

Here’s my five-step process that will help you launch your next round to new heights.

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR TARGET
Stand a few paces behind the ball and choose your landing target and the target line of your ball’s flight.

STEP 2. VISUALISE YOUR SHOT
Make a couple of practice swings while looking at your target, visualising the type of shot you want to play (draw, fade or other).

STEP 3: AIM THE CLUBHEAD
Step into the ball, pointing your clubface directly at the target line—pick a leaf, spot of grass a few feet in front of the ball to ensure you’re aligned correctly.

STEP 4: ALIGN YOUR BODY

Now take your stance by aligning your shoulders, forearms, hips, knees and feet parallel with your clubface.

STEP 5: PULL THE TRIGGER

Make several waggles and relax your hands, arms and shoulders. Take a final look at your target, start your swing and let it fly.
