Boutier Scores Second Win In As Many Weeks At The Scottish Open
Celine Boutier could be forgiven for experiencing a déjà vu moment after her victory at the FREED GROUP Scottish Open. After all, it was the second consecutive Sunday the 29-year-old hoisted the winner’s trophy and accepted the first-place cheque. The Frenchwoman won the Evian Championship seven days ago to record her maiden major title.
Boutier carded a 2-under 70 final round to score a two-shot victory at the FREED GROUP Scottish Open staged at Dundonald Links Golf Course in Troon. Boutier finished in second place at the event last year. With her win at the seaside layout, Boutier became the first player since Ariya Jutanugarn (2016) to claim a major title and then go on to win the following LPGA Tour event.
Hyo Joo Kim was outright runner up at 13-under. The Korean put together a stunning bogey-free 7-under 65 final round. China’s Ruoning Yin claimed solo third place. The 20-year-old, who won the Women’s PGA Championship earlier this season, carded a 6-under 66 on Sunday.
Sarah Kemp was the best-placed Australian. The 37-year-old from Sydney got to a 9-under tally to finish in a tie for 9th place. Minjee Lee and Stephanie Kyriacou were one-shot further back at 8-under and in a tie for 13th place. Lee made a remarkable comeback after opening the event with a shocking 8-over 80. The two-time major winner showed her class stringing together superb rounds of 66, 68 and 66.
Boutier banks the first place prize check of US$300,000. She leads the Race to CME Globe standings.
The LPGA Tour moves to England for next week’s AIG Women’s Open to be staged at Walton Heath Golf Club. South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai is the defending champion.
