Angel Yin Claims Maiden LPGA Tour Title in China
America’s Angel Yin outlasted world No. 1 Lilia Vu at the first playoff hole to win the Buick LPGA Shanghai. The victory in China was Yin’s first LPGA Tour title at her 159th start.
Yin, aged 25, fired opening rounds of 70, 69 and 65 at Qizhong Garden Golf Club to reach 12-under. The three-time Solheim Cup player held a share of the 54-hole lead with Sweden’s Maja Stark. Yin carded a 2-under 70 on Sunday to get to 14-under. Vu closed with a 4-under 68 with six birdies to join Yin at the top of the leaderboard after 72 holes. The 26-year-old American was looking for her fourth win of the season.
Five players finished one shot further back at 13-under: Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi who fired a stunning 8-under 64, Germany’s Esther Henseleit (68), China’s Yu Liu (68), plus Thailand pair Ariya Jutanugarn (69) and Pavarisa Yoktuan (70).
Australia’s Karis Davidson was another shot further back at 12-under after a final round 4-under 68. The 25-year-old, who was searching for his maiden LPGA Tour title, held a share of the lead mid-way through the back nine on Sunday. Davidson’s T8 result was her first top 10 this LPGA Tour season and matched her career-best LPGA Tour finish at the 2022 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.
The LPGA Tour moves to Korea for the BMW Ladies Championship to be staged at Seowon Hills at Seowon Valley Country Club on October 19-22. New Zealand’s Lydia Ko is the defending champion.
