Butterfield Bermuda Championship
Power Wins in Bermuda. Baddeley and Endycott Top 10
Ireland’s Seamus Power battled windy final round conditions to claim the Butterfield Bermuda Championship by one shot. It was the 35-year-old’s second PGA Tour title. Power won the Barbasol Championship in 2021. Australians Aaron Baddeley and Harrison Endycott finished in the top 10.
Power held a share of the lead heading into Sunday with America’s Ben Griffin after posting rounds of 65, 65 and 65 at Port Royal Golf Course. The world No. 48 found himself two shots behind Griffin after 11 holes. At that point, Power was 3-under for the round. Griffin was 5-under. The tournament then took a dramatic turn with Griffin dropping six shots over the next five holes leaving the Irishman out in front. Power made four bogeys and two birdies over his closing six holes to post a final round 1-under 70 to reach 19-under.
Belgium’s Thomas Detry snuck into solo second place after carding a final round 4-under 67 to get to 18-under. The 29-year-old, who is searching for his maiden PGA Tour win, enjoyed a birdie, birdie finish for his best result at a PGA Tour event.
Griffin, Patrick Rodgers and Kevin Yu tied for third place one shot further back at 17-under. Rodgers fired one of the best rounds on Sunday with a stunning 6-under 65. Taiwan’s Yu, aged 24, closed with a 1-under 70 for his best finish at a PGA Tour event. Griffin signed for a disappointing 1-over 72.
Australia’s Aaron Baddeley showed a return to form over the opening three rounds with scores of 65, 64 and 68. The 41-year-old PGA Tour veteran began the final round two shots off the lead as he was looking for his first win since the 2016 Barbasol Championship. Baddeley was trying to become the sixth person since 1980 to win a PGA Tour event after Monday qualifying and the first since Corey Conners at the 2019 Valero Texas Open. The four-time PGA Tour winner was unable to return to the winner’s circle scoring an even par final round to remain at 16-under. Young Australian Harrison Endycott produced his best finish on the PGA Tour after an impressive 3-under 68 on Sunday to take outright 10th place. The 26-year-old from Sydney has made a solid start to his debut PGA Tour season making three cuts from four outings. Endycott finished T12 at the Fortinet Championship in September.
The PGA Tour moves to Mexico for next week’s World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba to be staged at El Camaleon Golf Course. Norway’s Viktor Hovland is the defending champion.
