Morikawa Breaks Drought at ZOZO Championship
America’s Collin Morikawa returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in more than two years after winning the ZOZO Championship in Japan. The 26-year-old last won on the PGA TOUR at the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club.
Morikawa enjoyed an emphatic six-shot victory at the ZOZO Championship after producing a superb 7-under 63 on Sunday at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. The bogey-free final round got him to 14-under. The win in Japan will be a massive confidence boost for the talented two-time major winner, who squandered a six shot lead after 54 holes at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January to eventually finish second behind Jon Rahm. The win is Morikawa’s sixth PGA Tour title.
Americans Eric Cole and Beau Hossler took a share of second place at 8-under. Both players ended the week with an even par final round. American Robby Shelton (65) enjoyed a share of fourth place with local star Ryo Ishikawa (67). The pair finished at 7-under. Australia’s Min Woo Lee moved into a share of sixth place with Japan’s Kensei Hirata and Rio Hisatsune plus America’s JJ Spaun at 6-under. Lee closed with a brilliant 5-under 65.
Cam Davis has continued a solid run of results with his third consecutive top 15 result. The 28-year-old from Sydney finished at 4-under and in a tie for 12th place. The former Australian Open winner was T7 at last week’s Shriners Children’s Open and 3rd at the Fortinet Championship at his previous two PGA Tour starts.
The PGA Tour resumes On November 2 for the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico. America’s Russell Henley is the defending champion.
