Mike Browne On Top At G4D Tour Season Finale In Dubai
England’s Mike Browne scored victory at the G4D Tour @ DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The 45-year-old leg-amputee won the season-ending event by three shots over fellow Englishman Kipp Popert, Ireland’s Brendan Lawlor and Canada’s Kurtis Barkley. It was his second G4D Tour title after winning the G4D Tour @ Horizon Irish Open in June last year.
Browne fired a 1-under 71 opening round and was crowned the winner when play was cancelled on Friday at Jumeirah Golf Estates, reducing the contest to 18 holes. Speaking with media after the win, the emotional Englishman dedicated his victory to his late father, "That was a pretty special day," he said. "The course was playing amazing. "That one was for my dad. We lost him a year ago."
Popert, Lawlor and Barkley finished at 2-over in a share of second place. Popert was searching for his fifth title of the season. The world No. 1 collected the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in December last year. Lawlor won the inaugural G4D Open at Woburn Golf Club, England in May. Barkley notched his fifth runner up finish this season from seven outings.
Popert won the G4D Tour’s Order of Merit with Lawlor finishing the year in second place. Barkley took third place.
