List Wins Five-Man Playoff at Sanderson Farms Championship
America’s Luke List notched his is second PGA Tour victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship staged at The Country Club of Jackson, Mississippi. The 38-year-old won a five-man playoff after pouring in a long-range birdie putt from 43 feet at the first extra hole. List’s other win on the PGA Tour was at the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open, which he won in a playoff over Will Zalatoris.
Five players finished the 72 holes of regulation play with the equal lead at 18-under. They were American trio and Luke List, Ben Griffin and Scott Stallings plus Sweden’s Henrik Norlander and Ludvig Aberg. It was the first five-man playoff on the PGA Tour since 2016. Griffin, Norlander and Aberg were looking for their first PGA Tour win. Stallings was looking to return to the winner’s circle for the first time in 256 starts. His last PGA Tour win came at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2014. Griffin, who stared the final day with a three-shot lead, missed an eight-foot par putt at the 72nd hole for outright victory.
List fired rounds of 66, 66, 68 and 70 to reach 18-under. Aberg, fresh off making his Ryder Cup debut in Italy, carded a final round 4-iunder 68. Stallings and Norlander produced 2-under scores of 70. Griffin bogeyed two of his last thee holes for a 2-over 74 on Sunday.
Lucas Herbert and Harrison Endycott were the best-placed Australians finishing T28 at 10-under. Herbert from Victoria fired a 4-under 68 on Sunday. Endycott, aged 27, opened the event strongly with rounds of 67 and 65 before posting 74 and 72 over the weekend.
The PGA Tour moves to Nevada for next week’s Shriners Children’s Open to be staged at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. Korea’s Tom Kim is the defending champion. Lexi Thompson, am 11-time LPGA Tour winner, will become the seventh woman to make a start on the PGA Tour. The recent Solheim Cup player is the first woman to play at a PGA Tour event since Brittany Lincicome in 2018 at the Barbasol Championship.
