Corey Conners Stars In Texas

Canada’s Corey Conners entered the PGA Tour’s winner’s circle for the second time after closing out the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. Both of 31-year-old’s PGA Tour titles have come at the Texas Open. Conners overcame Charley Hoffman in 2019 at the event to earn his maiden PGA Tour victory.

Conners fired a bogey-free final round 4-under 68 to reach 15-under and outlast fast-finishing PGA Tour rookie Sam Stevens by one shot. Stevens, aged 26, scored six under over his final 11 holes including a stunning eagle at the par 4, 17th hole that moved him within one shot of Conners. The young American was unable to convert a birdie attempt from nine feet at the final green to join Conners.

Sam Ryder and Matt Kuchar took a share of third place at 13-under. Ryder signed for a 6-under 66. PGA Tour veteran Kuchar produced a 4-under 68. Fellow American Patrick Rodgers finished at 11-under in solo fifth place. The 30-year-old, who held the 54-hole lead at a PGA Tour event for the fourth time, carded a 1-over 73. Rodgers was searching for his maiden PGA Tour win at his 235th start.

Cam Davis (80, 66) and Harrison Endycott (74, 73) were the only Australians in the field. Both players missed the cut.

The PGA Tour moves to Georgia for next week’s The Masters staged at Augusta National Golf Club. America’s Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion.
