Boutier Fires 64 To Win Maybank Championship
France’s Celine Boutier produced a stunning bogey-free 8-under 64 on Sunday en route to winning the Maybank Championship. Boutier’s final round surge moved her into a playoff with Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul. Boutier won the marathon nine-hole playoff at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club with a birdie. The extra holes battle tied the record for the second-longest playoff in LPGA Tour history.
The win in Malaysia was Boutier’s fourth victory of the LPGA Tour season vaulting her to the lead in the Rolex Player of the Year standings.
Thitikul posted a 4-under 68 to match Boutier at 21-under. The 2022 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year was searching for her third LPGA Tour win.
Thailand’s Jasmine Suwannapura (70) and America’s Rose Zhang (71) took a share of third place at 19-under. It is Zhang’s fifth top 10 result on the LPGA Tour in just her 12th start as a professional.
Hannah Green was the best-placed Australian finishing in a tie for 17th place at 11-under.
The LPGA Tour heads to Japan for next week’s TOTO Japan Classic to be staged at Taikelyo Club. Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh is the defending champion.
