Aussie Jasper Stubbs Earns Augusta Invite After Asia-Pacific Win

Australia’s Jasper Stubbs won the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship staged at Royal Melbourne. The 21-year-old overcame China’s Wenyi Ding and Sampson Zheng on the second playoff hole to book his place at The Masters and The Open Championship next year.

Stubbs claimed the biggest trophy of his career after producing a 2-under 69 final round to finish at 1-over for the championship. The local favourite and Ding holed tricky birdie putts from approximately 20 feet at the first playoff hole to continue the contest. Zheng was eliminated. Stubbs won at the second playoff hole with a par.

The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship was first introduced in 2009 after being created by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation.

Stubbs is the fourth Australian to win the coveted title after Antonio Murdaca (2014), Curtis Luck (2016) and Harrison Crowe (2022). Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama won the event in 2010 & 2011.

Stubbs fired rounds of 68, 74, 74 and 69 — 285.
