Patrick Cantlay
2021 TOUR Championship
American Patrick Cantlay held off Jon Rahm by one shot to win the PGA Tour’s season-ending TOUR Championship & FedExCup. It was Cantlay’s second win in two starts after claiming the BMW Championship last week.
The 29-year-old Titleist staffer finished the 2020/21 PGA Tour season with four wins plus the lucrative FedExCup trophy with its US$15 million prize purse.
The Californian kicked off his remarkable season with a win at the ZOZO Championship in October when he outlasted Rahm and Justin Thomas by one shot. He then produced wins in playoffs at the Memorial Tournament (June) and the BMW Championship (August) over Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau respectively. His victory at the TOUR Championship gave him his sixth career PGA Tour title.
Cantlay led the Tour for the season in scrambling. The clutch performer used his Vokey Design wedges to salvage par or better 67.66% of attempts after missing the green in regulation. He fired his lowest round of the season of 11-under 61 in the 4th round of The American Express in January to bolt up the leaderboard and finish outright second. And, the unnerved performer ended the year ranked 5th in scoring average.
