Abraham Ancer
2021 WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational
Mexico’s Abraham Ancer scored his maiden PGA Tour win at the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational. The 30-year-old outlasted Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and America’s Sam Burns at the second playoff hole.
Ancer carded rounds of 67, 62, 67 and 68 at TPC Southwind to reach 16-under. The world No. 23 led the field in scrambling converting par saves 85.71% after missing the green in regulation. The former Australian Open champion ranked T5 in Greens in Regulation (70.8%), which allowed him to pour in 20 birdies for the week in regulation play. Ancer set up his memorable victory at the second extra hole after sticking his approach shot to six feet and holing the birdie putt.
With his win, Ancer moved to 6th in the FedExCup standings.
