Stephen Jaeger Claims Maiden PGA TOUR Win At The Houston Open

Stephen Jaeger scored his first win on the PGA TOUR at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. It was the 34-year-old from Germany’s 135th start on the PGA TOUR. Jaeger notched six victories on the Korn Ferry Tour between 2016 and 2021.

Jaeger produced rounds of 69, 66, 66 and 67 at Memorial Park Golf Course to reach 12-under. On Sunday, Jaeger covered the front nine in 3-under before returning nine consecutive pars on the back nine to stave off five players by one shot. The jam-packed leaderboard included another four players another shot further back. Jaeger became the 11th player to win the Texas Children’s Houston Open at his first attempt in the event. He is the 5th first-time winner on the PGA TOUR this season.

America‚Äôs Scottie Scheffler (68), Tony Finau (66) and Taylor Moore (67) took a share of second place with Belgium‚Äôs Thomas Detry (68) and Argentina‚Äôs Alejandro Tosti (68) at 11-under. World No. 1 Scheffler missed his five-foot birdie putt at the final green to force a playoff. After victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and THE PLAYERS Championship, Scheffler was looking to become the fourth player in the last 15 years on the PGA TOUR to win three consecutive starts (Tiger Woods 2008, Rory McIlroy 2014 and Dustin Johnson 2017).

Cam Davis was the best-placed Australian. The 29-year-old from Sydney carded a 3-under 67 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 21st place.

The PGA TOUR remains in the lone star state for next week’s Valero Texas Open to be staged at TPC San Antonio. Canada’s Corey Conners is the defending champion.
