Scheffler Wins RBC Heritage For 10th PGA Tour Title
Another week. Another jacket. Another victory. At least, that’s if you’re Scottie Scheffler. The 27-year-old American donned the Plaid Jacket for winning the RBC Heritage on a Monday finish. A week earlier, Scheffler earned his second Green Jacket at Augusta National for claiming his second Masters title.
Scheffler scored his fourth PGA Tour title in five starts with another brilliant performance at Harbour Town Golf Links, South Carolina. The emphatic world No. 1, who has amassed 10 PGA Tour title in just 51 career starts, forged a solid three-shot margin over compatriot Sahith Theegala.
Scheffler trailed by six shots after the first round in his bid to become the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the week after victory at The Masters. He followed his opening round 2-under 69 with a superb 6-under 65 on Friday to trim the defect to just three shots moving into the weekend. The two-time major champion powered into full gear with a sensational 8-under 63 on Saturday to vault into the lead. His final round 3-under 68 got him to 19-under for a comfortable three-shot victory.
Theegala outlasted a bunched group trailing Scheffler to the finish. The 26-year-old was looking for his second PGA Tour title and closed with a 3-under 68 to reach 16-under for outright second place.
Fellow Americans Wyndham Clark (65) and Patrick Cantlay (68) finished at 15-under in a share of third place.
Jason Day and Cam Davis were the only Australians in the field. Day fired a 5-under 66 on Sunday to leap 27 spots up to a tie for 18th place. Davis carded a final round 4-under 67 to get to 3-under and finish in a tie for 49th place.
The PGA TOUR moves to Louisiana for next week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans to be staged at TPC Louisiana. David Riley and Nick Hardy are the defending champions.
