Koepka Overcomes Rahm To Take LIV Greenbrier In A Playoff
Brooks Koepka took down Jon Rahm at the first playoff hole to win LIV GOLF Greenbrier. The 34-year-old from Florida collected the win with a par at the first extra hole. It was Koepka’s second victory on the LIV GOLF Tour this season after claiming LIV Singapore.
Koepka met Rahm in the playoff with a flawless 7-under 63 on Sunday. Rahm closed with a 5-under 65. Both players reached 19-under for the 54-hole event to finish one-shot clear of America’s Jason Kokrak who got to 18-under. Kokrak posted a superb 7-under 63 final round.
Aussie trio Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Cam Smith all finished inside the top 10. Leishman fired a bogey-free 6-under 64 that included a string of five consecutive birdies from the 9th hole. The Victorian shared fourth place with England’s Richard Bland. Herbert, also from Victoria, carded a 3-under 67 final round for a T6 result matching his season best finish at LIV Houston. Smith, signed for 3-under 67 on Sunday to get to 14-under for a tie in 8th place. It was Smith’s fourth consecutive top 10 result. The Queenslander sits in sixth place in the season-long standings to be the highest ranked Australian on the LIV GOLF Tour this season.
Smash Golf Club, led by Koepka, won the Team event by three shots over Smith’s Ripper Golf Club. Ripper GC hold third place in the Team standings
LIV GOLF moves to Chicago on September 13. Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion.
