Hannah Green Stars At LA Championship For Fifth LPGA Title
Western Australia’s Hannah Green won the JM Eagle LA Championship for the second year running with a stunning back nine performance on Sunday. The 27-year-old picked up five shots in a dramatic stretch from the 12th hole carding a birdie, birdie, par, eagle and birdie run. It was Green’s fifth LPGA Tour title. And, her second title this year after claiming the HSBC World Championship in Singapore during March.
Green closed with a superb 5-under 66 at Wilshire Country Club to get to 12-under. Sweden’s Maja Stark took solo second place three shots back at 9-under after signing for a 3-under 68. The 24-year-old finished runner up last week at the LPGA Tour’s first major of the year—The Chevron Championship. Stark was two shots behind Nelly Korda.
South Korea’s Haeran Ryu fired a 2-under 69 to reach 6-under and stake outright third place.
Grace Kim from Sydney led the field by four shots heading in the weekend after opening rounds of 64 and 66. Unfortunately, the talented 23-year-old fell off the pace with scores of 76 and 77 dropping her back to 1-under for the event and in a tie for 25th place.
The LPGA Tour moves to New Jersey for the Cognizant Founders Cup starting on May 9. Jin Young Ko is the defending champion.
