Glover Holds Nerve To Win FedEx St Jude Championship

America’s Lucas Glover is in career-best form. The Tour veteran produced a win for the ages after overcoming compatriot Patrick Cantlay at the first playoff hole to win the FedEx St Jude Championship. Glover, who won last week’s Wyndham Championship, becomes the first 40-year-old to go back-to-back on the PGA Tour since Vijay Singh in 2008. It was Glover’s sixth PGA Tour win and first victory during the FedExCup Playoffs.

Glover and Cantlay covered the 72 holes in 15-under. Glover recorded a final round 1-under 69. Cantlay produced the best score on Sunday with a stunning bogey-free 6-under 64. Players returned to replay the 18th hole in the playoff with Glover outlasting Cantlay with a solid par at the challenging par 4. Cantlay found the water off the tee en route to a bogey.

England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy took a share of third pace at 14-under. Fleetwood was searching for his maiden PGA Tour victory. It was his 23rd top 5 result on the PGA Tour. The 32-year-old owns the most top 5 finishes without a win on the PGA Tour since 1983. McIlroy, a three-time FedExCup champion, fired a superb 5-under 65 final round.

Australia’s Cam Davis broke into the top 50 on the FedExCup standings after producing a stunning T6 result to earn a place in the next week’s BMW Championship. Davis, who began the week in 62nd position, jumped to No. 45 after scoring all four rounds in the 60s. The 28-year-old from Sydney carded rounds of 66, 67, 69 and 67 to reach 11-under. Jason Day is the only other Australian left in the FedExCup Playoffs. The PGA champion finished at 2-under and in a tie for 52nd place. He sits at 21st place on the FedExCup standings to join the top 50 in Chicago at Olympia Fields next week.

Jon Rahm, who started the week ranked No. 1 on the FedExCup, finished at 5-under and in a tie for 37th place.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was on shot better than Rahm at 6-under.

The PGA Tour moves to Illinois for the second FedExCup Playoffs event at next week’s BMW Championship to be staged at Olympia Fields.
