Dean Burmester Earns Maiden LIV Title in Miami
South Africa’s Dean Burmester overcame Spain’s Sergio Garcia at the second playoff hole to win LIV Golf Miami. The 34-year-old produced a par at the second extra hole at Trump National Doral while Garcia made the error by pulling his approach shot into the water hazard. It was Garcia’s third playoff loss in his LIV Golf career.
Galleries were treated to a jam-packed leaderboard on the final day with six players grabbing the lead at some point. Garcia led the field into Sunday by two shots. The former Masters champion closed with a 2-under 70 to reach 11-under. Burmester fired a 4-under 68 to match Garcia at 11-under. America’s Matthew Wolff (69), Australia’s Marc Leishman (69), Spain’s Jon Rahm (69) and England’s Tyrrell Hatton (71) were all in contention. Wolff claimed solo third place at 10-under. Leishman, Rahm and Hatton took a share of fourth place at 8-under.
Chilean Joaquin Niemann continues to lead the 2024 individual player standings with Rahm in second place.
Rahm’s team, Legion XIII, narrowly held off the Rangegoast GC to win the team event. Rahm, Hatton, Kieran Vincent and Caleb Surratt closed out at 22-under. They finished one-shot clear of the Bubba Watson-led RangeGoats.
The Crushers GC (DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri) hold a healthy lead in the team standings over Legion XIII.
The LIV GOLF schedule moves to Australia for the popular LIV GOLF Adelaide extravaganza to be staged at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide starting on April 26. Taylor Gooch is the defending champion.
