Davis Riley Outguns Scheffler In Texas For Maiden Individual PGA TOUR Win
Davis Riley delivered a stunning performance at the Charles Schwab Challenge, clinching his first individual PGA TOUR title with an impressive five-shot victory. This triumph at the Colonial Country Club was especially significant for the 27-year-old, whose previous PGA TOUR win came at the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event alongside Nick Hardy.
Riley started the final round with a comfortable four-shot lead and managed to maintain his composure, firing an even-par 70 to finish at 14-under. His steady play outshone a field of formidable competitors, including three major champions.
Scottie Scheffler, the world's No. 1, and Keegan Bradley both ended the tournament tied for second place at 9-under. Bradley surged with a 3-under 67, marking his second runner-up finish of the season. Meanwhile, Scheffler struggled to find his rhythm, carding a 1-over 71. Despite the setback, Scheffler's season has been nothing short of remarkable, boasting 11 top-10 finishes out of 12 starts and seeking his fifth win of the year. This marks the third consecutive year Scheffler has secured a top-three finish at Colonial.
Collin Morikawa claimed fourth place with an 8-under finish, showcasing consistent excellence by shooting all four rounds in the 60s. The 27-year-old's final round of 2-under 68 was a testament to his steady performance throughout the event.
Among Australian competitors, Adam Scott emerged on top, finishing tied for 12th at 3-under after a final round of 1-over 71. Fellow Aussies Min Woo Lee and Cam Davis also made it through to the weekend.
The PGA TOUR heads to Ontario for next week’s RBC Canadian Open to be staged at Hamilton Golf & Country Club. Nick Taylor is the defending champion.
