Danny Lee Wins LIV Golf Tucson
New Zealand’s Danny Lee outlasted a four-man playoff to win LIV Golf Tucson. Lee, aged 32, holed his birdie putt from off the green at the third extra hole to overcome Carlos Ortiz, Brendan Steele and Louis Oosthuizen.
Lee’s last win came at the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic in 2015. The former US Amateur champion was making just his second LIV Golf start. Lee posted rounds of 68, 67 and 69 at The Gallery Golf Club to reach 9-under. His dramatic finish in regulation included birdies at his last two holes.
Ortiz made the playoff after firing a superb 6-under 65 final round that included eight birdies. Steele and Oosthuizen carded 1-under 70 on Sunday to advance to extra holes.
Matt Jones was the best-placed Australian at 7-under finishing in 7th place. The 42-year-old birdied three of his last four holes for a final round 2-under 69. Marc Leishman, who took a two-shot lead into the final round, crashed with a final round 6-over 77 to fall back to 5-under and take 17th place.
The Fireballs won the Team event at 25-under by four shots. The four-man squad includes Abraham Ancer, Sergio Garcia, Carlos Ortiz and Eugenio Chacarra.
The LIV Golf Tour moves to Orange County National for LIV Golf Orlando from March 31 – April 02.
