Coletta, Lau, Pollard & Lockey Claim Glory At 13th Beach
Brett Coletta and Ashley Lau held off tough competition to win the respective Men's & Women's Vic Open titles at 13th Beach Golf Links. Cam Pollard collected the 2024 Victorian Inclusive championship and Steven Lockey became the Australian Wheelchair champion.
Coletta claimed his biggest career victory after outlasting Jordan Zunic. The 27-year-old Victorian began the final round two shots off the lead before firing a sizzling 7-under 65 to reach 18-under. His final tally was good enough for a two-shot victory. It his third Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia title and he moves to second place on this year’s Order of Merit.
Zunic (67) took a share of second place with Andrew Martin (68). The pair finished at 16-under. Former LIV Golf Tour member Jed Morgan carded a sensational 8-under 64 to get to 14-under and share fourth place with Travis Smyth.
Ashley Lau from Malaysia continued het hot run of form in Australia this summer to win the Women's Vic Open. Lau, who finished second and eighth in the previous two Webex Players Series events, overcame defending champion Jiyai Shin by one shot. Lau, aged 23, made a clutch birdie at the final hole to post a 6-under 66 and get to 12-under. Shin was looking to become the first women to go back-to-back and claimed solo second place at 11-under. Australian golfing legend Karrie Webb added to her third round 67 with a 2-under 70 to finish in a tie for 11th.
Cam Pollard won the Victorian Inclusive championship after carding rounds of 69 and 70 to reach 5-under. The Coffs Harbour member finished four shots ahead of Webex Players Series Murray River winner Wayne Perske. Pollard won the Victorian Inclusive trophy in 2020. And, he won the Webex Players Series Victoria last week.
Steven Lockey produced a gritty come-from-behind win in the Australian Wheelchair Championship. The Tasmanian chased down overnight leader James Gribble.
